Where can JobScout be accessed?

JobScout is available online at myjobscout.org. Right now, offline support for JobScout is available in over 800 libraries in California.

The web application has been optimized for mobile browser use, so all features of JobScout are available using a web-enabled phone or a tablet device such as an iPad. JobScout is free for users and available online.

Currently, we have a native mobile application available for iOS in the iTunes Store. Our Android app will launch in 2013. The platform will also launch a version in Spanish in 2013, addressing the growing employment and education needs of the Spanish speaking population in the United States.

Can anyone use it, even if I am not from California, or I don’t live near one of the pilot library sites?

The site is publicly available online, and always free to the individual user. Organizations can subscribe to JobScout. Please contact sales@discovertrail.com for more details.

What if I only have a dial up connection? What web browser or versions of a web browser should I be using?

The JobScout team kept bandwidth in mind when designing the platform since this is a big issue across the United States, especially within rural areas. The web platform has been tested and is being refined to make sure load times are not prohibitive to user access and success with the platform whatever your mode of accessing it may be.

JobScout is compatible with Safari, Mozilla Firefox, Chrome and Internet Explorer at this time. Users with the Internet Explorer 7 or higher will have the best user experience with the site. If you are connecting to the platform from of our current customer or partner organizations, JobScout has worked with all of the pilot sites to make sure our platform is available with the hardware and software that is provided at each location.

Who should I email for help and customer support?

You can fill out our User Support form on the site or email our team at bradley@discovertrail.com.

What else should I do if something does not work on the site?

Since we are still in beta, sometimes JobScout encounters bugs. Our first recommendation would be to reload the page. If the problem persists, please email our team or fill out the User Support form. The JobScout team will try to fix system bugs as fast as possible.

What features are currently available?

The current platform contains:

  • 39 lessons with content ranging from using a web browser to preparing for an interview using online resources;

  • A Resume Builder, which creates a resume users can save and print;

  • A job search function powered by SimplyHired.com that populates new job opportunities every time a user logs in;

  • The JobScout Social Network, where users can connect with one another based on geographic location, area of employment interest or badges earned;

  • Nine different game types for users to interact with for lessons; and

  • The One-Stop Job Shop where users can save job listings, send their ResumeBuilder resume directly to employers with a form cover letter and maintain a schedule of the interviews they acquire.

Where does the lesson content come from?

The content on JobScout reflects the Basic Digital Literacy Skills Framework developed by the State of California. Lesson content is being developed and collaboratively edited by a variety of stakeholders in the education, digital literacy and technology spaces.

The Digital Literacy Pathways in California report contains the full details regarding this framework.

Who is behind JobScout? How do we know it is legit?

JobScout is platform developed by TRAIL, a for-profit company. TRAIL is a web and mobile application development company that helps you effectively manage parts of your everyday life, whether it’s finding a job, managing your healthcare, becoming engaged in your communities or simply being an equipped digital citizen. Whether you need to start from scratch learning to manage your life online or just want easy-to-use streamlined tools, TRAIL will help you discover your path online.

This project was supported in part by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, administered in California by the State Librarian.

How is my data stored and protected?
